Roy is an experienced Finance professional, with strong motivational and negotiation skills and a proven track record in sales and management. Well versed in negotiating complex multi-million pound transactions, involving a range of disciplines covering, commercial, technical, financial and legal. Strong analytical and problem solving skills combined with an entrepreneurial flair.
Roy trained as a Credit analyst within the head office credit department of Barclays Mercantile Leasing. He was responsible for financial analysis and reports, on transactions in excess of £500k to the board of Mercantile and Barclays. This led into a role within the Corporate Finance Division marketing and structuring tax based lease structures to UK plc’s. He later moved into a role at the fledging ING Lease (UK) rising to the board as Sales Director responsible for the UK Sales and Marketing Team.
After five years at ING Roy left banking and finance to gain experience in Industry working as Finance and Leasing consultant to ALSTOM Power one of the worlds leading power generation equipment suppliers with a worldwide mandate for structuring project finance transactions for ALSTOM Industrial Gas Turbine and Large Engines to Oil and Gas and Power Generation companies.
Roy Founded Whatrate.com the first UK on-line Leasing intermediation Service for SME’s in Dec 1999 and raised £1.5M of funding in two tranches, the latter tranche of £1.25M in February 2001, in extremely difficult market conditions. He was instrumental in the design and creation of a unique credit evaluation model and workflow systems for back-end integration by Banks and Finance Houses. The system was launched in February 2002 and successfully marketed to 20 leading Banks and Finance Houses Promoted the Whatrate products to in excess of fifty high-profile vendors, successfully gaining contractual commitment in every case.
Roy joined QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited in 2006 as a senior Underwriter, underwriting Residual Value and Credit Enhancement Insurance policies $30M limit Created “Maintained Availability” Insurance for Renewable Energy Sector. Unique policy for developing and prototypical technologies protecting debt and acting as Quasi Equity, Mezzanine finance.
In April 2009, Roy left QBE to set up his own Consultancy, RARU Limited, bringing additional capacity providers to the table, and now has lifted the policy limit to $70M-$100M. Several mandates with technology providers and Project sponsors were secured within the Renewable Energy space. Roy also served as Finance Director in a solar energy fund successfully financing five projects in Italy.
Roy has been the Head of European operations for Somerset Capital group since June 2012. Somerset is a highly successful US Operating Lessor now bringing their asset management capabilities to the European market.
